Government launches special course to train teachers
The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has launched a diploma course in Elementary Education to train teachers across the country for teaching students up to Class 8.
- The Ministry intends to train all such teachers with minimum qualifications by 2019, as per the amended Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Act, 2017.
Chandrababu Naidu Launches ‘Swachh Andhra Mission’
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu launched Swachh Andhra Mission on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
- Ace shuttler PV Sindhu has been chosen as the brand ambassador of Swachh Andhra.
Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017 to be held in Hyderabad
The Global Entrepreneurship Summit to be held between 28th to 30th of November in Hyderabad will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Advisor to the US President, Ivanka Trump, who leads the U.S. delegation.
- The summit is the preeminent annual gathering of emerging entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders from around the world.
Modi lays foundation stone for AIIMS in Himachal Pradesh
PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for an AIIMS premier hospital in Bilaspur town of Himachal Pradesh.
- Modi also laid the foundation stone of an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) to be set up in Una town and inaugurated a steel processing plant of the Steel Authority of India set up with an outlay of Rs 70 crore in Kandrori town in Kangra district, via video conference from Bilaspur.
Khandu announces to make Arunachal Open Defecation Free by December 31 this year
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced that Arunachal Pradesh shall be Open Defecation Free by December 31 this year. He said Sikkim is the only state in North East to achieve ODF free status and Arunachal is eager to be the next.

India to be guest country at World Government Summit
India will be the guest of honour during the sixth edition of the World Government Summit scheduled from February 11th – 13th, 2018 in Dubai.
- The summit is the largest movement to review and share the best experiences, and the first global forum for governments, countries, organizations and private sector leaders interested in the industry of the future.
BANKING
SBI waives closure charges for 1 year old savings accounts
The largest public sector lender, State Bank of India (SBI), has waived off closing charges for savings account holders. The closure fee waiver is applicable for accounts which are at least 1 year old.
- Earlier, SBI was charging Rs 500 with Goods and Service Tax (GST) as closure charges for its savings account customers.
- Customers who close their accounts within 14 days after opening are exempted from any charges.
- The revised savings bank account closure charges are effective from October 1.
Reserve Bank of India opens branch in Dehradun
The Reserve Bank of India has opened a branch in Dehradun, Uttarakhand to make transactions of the state government more convenient. Earlier, the state government had to do financial transactions through the Kanpur branch of the RBI.

Airtel gets approval for Tigo Merger
Bharti Airtel has received Ghana’s National Communications Authority’s approval for the merger between Bharti Ghana (Airtel) and Millicom Ghana (Tigo), subject to certain conditions. This merger will result in an entity which will be the second largest mobile network operations in the country.
The merger was first announced in March this year.

India remain 4th in women’s cricket team rankings
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), India remained fourth, while England dethroned Australia from the top position in the womens cricket team rankings for the first time following the annual rankings update.

Brenda Hale of Richmond has become the first female President of the Supreme Court in the United Kingdom.
Jagmeet Singh becomes first Sikh politician to lead major Canadian party
Lawyer Jagmeet Singh made history as he became the first person belonging to a visible minority group, and obviously the first of Indian and Sikh heritage, to be elected leader of one of Canada’s three largest national political parties.

Physics Nobel goes to astounding discovery of gravitational waves
Three American scientists from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) have won the Nobel Prize in Physics for their contribution to detecting gravitational waves — ripples in the fabrics of spacetime which were predicted by Albert Einstein a hundred years ago.
- These are Rainer Weiss of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Barry C. Barish and Kip S. Thorne — both from California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
- The scientists were awarded the Nobel prize “for decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves”.
Madurai’s Meenakshi Temple named best ‘Swachh Iconic Place’ in India
The Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple has been adjudged best ‘Swachh Iconic Place’ in India as on October 1. Ten spots were identified by the Central Government as part of the ‘Swachh Iconic Places’ initiative earlier this year. The target before March 2018 is to make the four streets around the temple 100 per cent plastic free
GIFT City’s IFSC bags 10th place in Global Financial Centres Index
Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City)’s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) has bagged the 10th spot in the latest edition of Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI), London, September 2017.
- Also, according to the report, while well-established centres such as New York, London, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo have maintained their lead, emerging centres like GIFT IFSC have made significant progress.
